Every survivor\u2019s journey is different\u2014but no one should have to walk it alone. When you volunteer with us, you help provide hope, healing, and support to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and homicide.<\/p>\r\n

Whether you’re offering a warm welcome at our walk-in resource center, lending a hand at an outreach event, or helping behind the scenes, your time and compassion have the power to change lives.<\/p>\r\n

Getting Started<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n

Our team will guide you every step of the way and help match you with a volunteer role that fits your interests, availability, and comfort level. The first step is to click the button to the right and fill out your application. Some placements, such as our crisis line or SA volunteers, may need to submit additional documentation or complete background checks before being assigned to duty. These documents will be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator only if needed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n

Moving\/Deliveries<\/h3>\r\n\t

We need volunteers with trucks\/vans and the strength to help move larger items, such as furniture. We regularly have clients moving out of shelter and into their new homes, or receive donations that need to be picked up and brought to our storage shed.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n

Phone Volunteers<\/h3>\r\n

We are always in need of volunteers who are willing to assist with answering the phones at our walk-in location, speaking with people who come in for assistance, making referrals to other agencies when appropriate, referring to our clinical staff or other staff members as needed. Typically a four-hour shift during weekdays.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n

Events Help<\/h3>\r\n

Whether it’s manning an information table at a health fair or assisting with planning our fundraisers, we always need event volunteers!<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n\t

Trainers<\/h3>\r\n

Have a special skill or profession that could benefit our residents? Why not come teach a class? From art classes to yoga to financial planning, we welcome volunteers to come share their expertise with our clients.<\/p>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

Concert Usher Volunteers<\/h2>\r\n

One great, fun way to help support our Center is to participate in our volunteer usher program. Through a cooperative agreement with IP Casino Resort, we provide volunteers to serve as ushers at their concerts, and they provide a financial donation for each show. We are always in need of usher volunteers. The work is easy and ushers get to see some great concerts for free! Watch our Events Calendar<\/a> for upcoming opportunities, and contact Paul Ahlberg (paul.r.ahlberg.civ@mail.mil<\/a>) or Dan Kazumura (daniel.kazumura@gmail.com<\/a>) to sign up prior to the show. Must be 21 or over to participate.<\/p>\r\n

The GCCFN Ambassador program provides an opportunity for concerned members of our community to assist with education and advocacy on behalf of GCCFN and survivors of interpersonal violence. Participants receive specialized training on the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, as well as the programs and services available through GCCFN, in preparation for serving as representatives of the Center. <\/p>\r\n\"group \r\n

Time Commitment: <\/strong>Four two-hour evening training sessions and quarterly virtual check-in meetings
\r\nRequirements: <\/strong>Must be age 21 or over, agree to adhere to Center confidentiality policies, and complete background checks<\/p>\r\n

Are you 14\u201320 years old and passionate about making a difference in your community? We\u2019re looking for driven, compassionate youth to join our Youth Advisory Board! As a member, you’ll gain leadership skills, advocate for change, and help shape initiatives that support survivors of domestic and sexual violence.<\/p>\r\n\"group \r\n

Time Commitment: <\/strong>Complete a four-hour Saturday training and quarterly virtual check-in board meetings
\r\nRequirements: <\/strong>Must be age 14-20 or over and uphold the mission and values of Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence; parental consent is required if under 18 years old.<\/p>\r\n

Sexual Assault Victim Advocates<\/h2>\r\n\"Victim\r\n

Willing community members who are at least 21 years old may be trained to become Sexual Assault Victim Advocates. These special people make themselves available to be on call to visit victims of sexual assault in the hospital, provide support, and share information about available support services. If you are interested in becoming an SA Advocate, please contact Shaney Freemantle-Brackett at sfreemantle-brackett@gccfn.org or (228) 436-3809.<\/p>\r\n

Location: <\/strong>Local hospitals in Jackson, George, Harrison, Hancock, Pearl River, and Stone Counties
\r\nTime Commitment: <\/strong>Actual hours vary according to frequency of SA calls; advocates are asked to be \u201con call\u201d for a 15-hour shift weekdays (5pm to 8am) or for a weekend, scheduled in advance.
\r\nRequirements:<\/strong> Must be 21 years old; completion of background checks, current driver\u2019s license, reliable transportation, completion of 2-hour basic volunteer training, and completion of 40 hours Trauma Informed Sexual Assault Advocacy Core Training (TISAACT), which are both online and in-person.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

VOICES Members<\/h2>\r\n

VOICES members are volunteers with lived experience of domestic violence, sexual assault, and\/or human trafficking as an adult or child. Members of VOICES join to celebrate strength and survival and use their voices to help others through advocacy, education, and empowerment. As survivors, VOICES members can offer a unique perspective regarding the community response to domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. VOICES members also provide accountability for the work of the Gulf Coast Family Justice Center in our implementation of policies and procedures that impact survivors and their children.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Become a GCCFN volunteer and help support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
