Our Center opened as a safe house in 1977, providing help to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Since then, the Center has grown to be the largest, most comprehensive program in the State of Mississippi. We serve the six southernmost counties of Mississippi: Jackson, Harrison, Hancock, Pearl River, George, and Stone Counties.

24-HOUR CRISIS LINE
The Center’s domestic violence program provides 24-hour, 7 day per week crisis intervention services to individuals who are victims of domestic violence. The crisis line is staffed by trained personnel who can assist callers with accessing our domestic violence shelter if needed, or referral to other community resources. Our crisis line typically receives over 15,000 calls per year requesting assistance and information. Anyone seeking assistance or information for interpersonal violence is welcome to call us at 800-800-1396.
EMERGENCY SHELTER SERVICES
Our Center has two emergency shelter facilities to provide services to victims of domestic violence and their children. Residents of Harrison, Hancock, Pearl River, and Stone Counties are served through our Harrison County shelter, Jane’s House. Residents of Jackson and George Counties are served through our Jackson County shelter, Adrienne’s House.
Residents of the domestic violence shelter are provided with food, clothing, childcare, some transportation, and personal hygiene items. Crisis intervention, individual and group counseling and case management services are provided for residents of the shelter. During their stay, they gain access to community resources such as legal, medical, housing, education, training programs, and employment.
Welcome to All
Our emergency shelters are fully inclusive and gender-neutral, welcoming to individuals of any gender, race, orientation, religion, language, ethnicity, or citizenship status. They are ADA compliant and accommodating to those with disabilities. Service animals are welcome.
It is important to note that our shelters are not medical facilities. Individuals must be able to live safely in a communal setting and be capable of self-care. If assistance is needed with bathing, dressing, medical care, etc., residents are welcome to bring a personal attendant with them.
Jane’s House

The GCCFN emergency domestic violence shelter in Biloxi is the oldest and largest in the state of Mississippi. It has a capacity of 44 beds for survivors and their children, but at times can accommodate more with the addition of cribs or cots. It has a full industrial kitchen with a full time cook onsite; two playground areas, and a children’s indoor playroom.
The Biloxi shelter was renamed “Jane’s House” in 2023, in memory and honor of Jane Philo, its Executive Director from 1983 – 2004.
Adrienne’s House

The Center opened the doors of Adrienne’s House, our satellite domestic violence shelter serving Jackson and George Counties, on October 3, 2011. Adrienne’s House was named in honor of Adrienne Klasky, a Pascagoula woman who was killed by her abuser in 1989. All residents of Adrienne’s House receive comprehensive, wrap-around services to best meet their needs and increase their chances of successfully overcoming the many impacts of domestic violence.
Adrienne’s House has a capacity of 16 beds for emergency shelter of domestic violence survivors and their children.
Counseling
Our individual and group counseling services offer a safe, supportive space to heal from the trauma, explore personal challenges, build emotional resilience, and find clarity. Our licensed clinical staff are here to help their clients navigate with non-judgmental, compassionate care. Counseling is free, confidential, and available for survivors in our shelter program or in the community through our nonresidential program.
Case Management
Our Case Management service connects individuals and families with the resources they need to thrive. We provide personalized support, helping you navigate housing, healthcare, employment, and other essential services to promote stability and self-sufficiency.
Housing Programs
Our Housing Programs offer safe, stable living options for individuals and families facing homelessness or housing insecurity as a result of domestic violence or human trafficking. We provide additional, supportive services to help clients achieve long-term housing stability and greater independence.
Legal Services
The Northcutt Legal Clinic provides civil legal representation to resolve problems caused by abuse suffered by victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking, who are otherwise unable to afford such services.

SAFE HAVEN PET PROGRAM
Our Safe Haven Pet Program partners with local veterinarians to provide temporary boarding and compassionate care for the beloved pets of residents in our domestic violence shelter. Recognizing that fear for a pet’s safety can be a barrier to seeking help, this program ensures that survivors can escape abuse without leaving their animals behind. By keeping pets safe and cared for, we help families begin the healing process together.
