Advocate

Three women stand confidently against a light purple background, each wearing a white T-shirt with a purple awareness ribbon pinned to the front, symbolizing support for domestic violence awareness.

We’re working hard every day to raise awareness of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, but we can’t do it alone – we need your voice! There are many ways that you can get involved in helping to stop interpersonal violence and support survivors.

Speak up for Survivors

Ending violence starts with confronting harmful attitudes in everyday situations and speaking up on behalf of victims. You can help be an advocate for victims by doing things such as:

  • Calling the police whenever you see domestic violence or dating violence happening
  • Sharing our crisis line number (800-800-1396) with anyone you believe may be a victim and need our help
  • Posting our number, flyers, or brochures in your workplace or resource area
  • Speaking out whenever you hear someone blaming a sexual assault victim because of their appearance or behavior
  • Reporting sexual harassment to human resources at work
  • Refusing to make or accept excuses for an abuser’s behavior
  • Speaking up and reporting suspicions of child abuse or child sexual abuse to Child Protection Services
  • Confronting controlling behaviors, stalking, or misogynistic attitudes with friends when they happen

Participate in Events

The Center hosts many public events and campaigns throughout the year, from our Rock the Cause 5K in April, to our Purple For Peace campaign in October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. These events are always fun, and we need you! Watch our Events Calendar or follow us on social media to keep up with all our upcoming events.

Start by Believing

Survivors often stay silent because they fear they won’t be believed. Start by Believing is a national campaign that encourages each of us to respond with empathy and support. Your words matter. Your belief matters. Join us in creating a community where survivors feel safe coming forward.

Begin by taking the pledge, and find out how you can lead a Start By Believing awareness campaign within your workplace, church, or civic group to show your support for survivors.

Host A Training

Are you part of a civic group, church group, club or class? Can you bring together a group of interested friends? Contact us to have a speaker come talk to your group about domestic violence, sexual assault awareness and prevention, or human trafficking. It’s a great way to spread awareness and help us get the word out about the services available at our Center.

Become an Ambassador

Consider participating in training to become a GCCFN Ambassador Volunteer or Youth Advisory Board member! Our ambassadors are passionate advocates who help raise awareness, share resources, and represent our organization in the community. Whether you speak at events, distribute materials, or engage others through social media, you’ll help shift attitudes, promote healing, and ensure survivors know they’re not alone.

As an ambassador, you’ll receive guidance and training to support your outreach efforts, with flexible opportunities based on your interests and availability. Join us in being a voice for change—because every conversation makes a difference.
